It is with sadness that now after 142 years we must acknowledge the closure of Lydney Hospital, together with Dilke Hospital who have just celebrated its 100-year anniversary. Both hospitals have now been replaced by the new Forest Hospital situated in Cinderford.
Over the past few years, we have been campaigning for a new Medical Centre in Lydney to replace the services lost to us by the closure of Lydney Hospital.
At last, we have received confirmation that plans for two GP surgeries are to relocate to a new £7.5m Health Centre to be situated in the former Co-op building in Newerne Street. Whilst we welcome this idea in general, we are concerned that the facilities offered do not go far enough and we are continuing to press for additional services to benefit local people.
Although we are no longer fund raising, we remain steadfast in our commitment to local healthcare and wish to support any local health charities in the area.
