On 2nd May 2012 around 25 volunteers attended a meeting at Lydney & District Hospital, Grove House, between 2.00 and 4.00 pm. Those interested in helping with a variety of tasks at the hospital were greeted by Mandy Hampton, matron of Forest Community Hospitals. Jane Crowther, Head of Volunteers at Tewkesbury Hospital described the successful scheme they already had in operation. The response was enthuasiastic and volunteers will now go through a simple 'recruitment' process prior to implementation of the scheme. For more information telephone Shirley Powell (Gloucestershire Care Services) on 01594 598115 or Wendy Edwards on 01594 598220.

The Friends of Lydney Hospital were formed in 1969 to provide much needed equipment and comforts for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors.
Since then the Friends have donated in excess of £1,000,000, generously given by the local community and used for various projects at the hospital. These include Theatre and X-Ray equipment, refurbishment of inpatient wards and the MIU (minor injury unit), and more recently £200,000+ towards the cost of additional outpatient facilities.
We do not fund the core services provided by the Gloucestershire PCT.
The Hospital provides 21 in-patient beds supported by local GPs, an operating theatre suite, a minor injury unit, day case beds, palliative care, a modern physiotherapy department and even endoscopy sessions.
Lydney Hospital is a valuable asset within our community. The availability of local medical amenities means that patients can be seen quicker and do not have the additional stress of travelling 20 miles to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
This is why we have a passion to help.
